Braintree expands to match global technology demand - Australian Trade Magazine

Leading local technology developer Braintree Communications continues to experience rapid growth in operations to match the global demand for its Axon technology.

"The growth of interest in our wireless Axon terminal adaptor product worldwide has fuelled the demand for us to expand our engineering and procurement team," said Braintree chief executive Peter Hall. "We are excited that Braintree is expanding on multiple fronts to fulfil this market demand including developing a wider range of Axon solutions for DSL and CDMA applications."

Braintree leads the field in protocol conversion technology in Australia and has expanded its specialist staff to further advance their technology across a variety of networks including DSL and CDMA.

"The demand for highly skilled technology staff has never been greater for us," says Mr Hall. "The expansion of the engineering team is another step in Braintree's long-term plan to progress our technology further and remain at the forefront of development."

In the last 12 months Braintree has nearly doubled in size and Mr Hall does not see this trend subsiding.

“The last 12 months has been a good time to hire, particularly engineers as IT labs and companies around Australia have been downsizing and there are plenty of good people around. We have employed engineers with specific skill sets for our niche market which will help drive future product developments”.

Braintree attributes this increase in demand for its technology to the banks and Telcos wanting to migrate merchants from older, slower and more expensive networks to modern wireless and digital networks and drive further life out of existing transaction terminals. POS and ATM manufacturers are developing wireless solutions but what makes Braintree’s Axon technology unique is that it allows merchants to migrate immediately without updating transaction terminals currently in the merchant’s store.

“Our Axon technology wireless-enables existing fixed line transaction terminals to a GPRS network. This is done through our intelligent protocol conversion embedded in our Axon terminal adaptors which significantly reduces the migration costs for merchants, banks and Telcos when compared to replacing terminals,” says Hall.

Domestically Braintree expects the first round of deployment of 4000 wireless GPRS Axons later this year. Globally Braintree has received interest in its Axon technology from the UK, US, Indonesia, Nigeria and the Middle East.

Hall says “I am confident that we have put in place the infrastructures required for us to take advantage of these opportunities so we can forge ahead domestically and internationally with our technology”.
