Small QLD company recognised for ICT excellence

Data communication specialists, Braintree Communications, continues to be recognised for its cutting edge development of world-first technology by winning the recent APICTA Awards. Braintree won the Communication Applications category at the Asia-Pacific ICT Awards and a finalist for the Best of R&D category.

The APICTA Awards brings together Australia’s best ICT technologies to compete in 23 categories. Applicants were judged on technology uniqueness, benefits to target industries and market potential amongst other criteria. From these applicants, three finalists where chosen in each category with the winner awarded at the Gala Presentation Night held at Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast.

“Credibility and recognition for your quality and expertise is a big deal in the IT industry particularly in today’s current climate. Our official defence industry recognition along with winning three national IT competitions has done wonders for the promotion of Braintree both domestically and internationally,” Chief Executive Officer for Braintree Communications, Mr Peter Hall explains.

Braintree’s award-winning solution, the Translator product series, is designed for transaction and/or data processing with synchronous and asynchronous attached devices such as terminals, ATMs and EFTPOS connected to a Local Area Network (LAN).

“The Translator product series is ideal for networking terminals that require a high degree of data security,” said Mr Hall. “We have recently designed and developed a customised version of the Translator for Boeing to integrate the Australian Defence Force’s communications network”.

“Braintree’s technology suits networking environments where secure data transmission is vital for instance in networking ATMs in the banking and finance industry,” said Mr Hall. “Our Translator products support unformatted or encrypted data which is not found in other synchronous terminals servers”.

The Translator can be configured, managed and upgraded either locally or remotely over the network. These features allow the network manager to optimise the terminal servers performance without sending a technician to the user premises.

Other unique features of Braintree’s translator solution include the ability for multi-channelling – to simultaneously broadcast the same information to multiple synchronous and asynchronous ports.

Mr Hall says, “Our terminal server is a robust and reliable product that can be customised to integrate a number of synchronous, asynchronous and Ethernet-based applications, whether you’re processing financial transactions or communicating with troops on the front”.

This is not the first time that Braintree’s unique technology has been officially recognised. Braintree has already won 2 previous technology awards for their unique network gateway solutions as used by Telstra Corporation in their ISDN small business solution. Braintree has also been officially acknowledged as a ‘Defence Recognised Supplier’ to the Australian Defence Industry following the customised Translator solution developed for Boeing.

Braintree’s unique technology development capabilities will allow them to further its competitive advantage in the national and international markets.

“The European market holds significant opportunities for the Braintree Technology as this market is amongst the largest in the world in regards to consumption. In particular we are targeting the UK as their infrastructure is very similar to that of Australia’s but on a much larger scale,” Mr Hall said.

“This Award has rounded of a great year for Braintree. We have identified and begun discussion with partners in the UK and Europe. We are developing our technology further with some exciting projects planned for the domestic market in the next 6 to 12 months”.
