16 October 2001 10 high-tech firms in Austrade Europe mission - Australian Financial Review Ten emerging high-tech companies from around Australia are being given a chance to tap into European market knowhow in November as part of an eight-day Austrade mission. Officials said yesterday the tour would give the selected group first-hand knowledge of European technology trends; allow them to make connections with senior business people and technology companies; and again access to venture capitalists across Europe. Sun Microsystems Australia and Nextec Strategic Capital teamed up with Austrade to assess applicants competing for a place on the tour. The local managing director of Sun Microsystems, Mr Jim Hassell, said companies were able to broaden the scope of opportunity by moving outside their domestic market. The European tour would help new Australian technology companies see how to achieve their goals in a rapidly evolving global IT environment. The companies will visit London, Frankfurt and Stockholm. Mr Richard Llewellyn chairman and chief executive of Nextec, said the correction in the technology investment market had forced investors to prove their assessment of engineering technology companies. The 10 winners are: Braintree
Communications, a Queensland company that designs and develops telecoms
products; Catalyst Interactive of the ACT, which uses e-learning and authoring
tools to deliver content via browsers; Emagine International of NSW, whose
customer retention and loyalty marketing is applied in the mobile internet
