QLD company wins at global awards

QLD technology developer, Braintree Communications, has won second place for its ATM technology in a global awards competition held by the world ATM Industry Association (ATMIA).

Braintree CEO, Peter Hall, said the Award can be equated to the Australian baseball team winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games.

“This industry to date has been dominated by major global corporations such as Triton and NCR who are based all over the world.

“ATMIA is the main industry association serving all ATM businesses internationally. It is established in America , Canada , United Kingdom , Europe, Asia and Africa, yet in Australia it might only have 10 members.

“This Award is major recognition that our technology is leading edge, innovative and realistically competes in the global market,” Mr Hall said.

Braintree entered the competition with its Axon technology that allows Telco's, banks, merchants and terminal manufacturers to migrate existing EFTPOS and ATM equipment to wireless networks.

Braintree 's Axon technology was short-listed for two awards under the ATM Technology category – Through the Wall ATM and Stand Alone ATM . Its second placing came in the Through the Wall section.

“Being short-listed in the top three for two awards is recognition of the IT excellence that comes from not just Queensland but Australia ,” said Mr Hall.

Braintree 's Axon terminal adaptors replace fixed line EFTPOS and ATM networks with wireless connectivity. The Axon is a wireless modem for transaction equipment and sends financial transaction data across the same network that most Australian mobile phones use for voice and sms traffic.

The stakeholders in the financial transactions industry benefit through dramatic tariff reductions with no line rental charges, faster transaction speeds, remote network management, service bundling opportunities and greater network reliability.

Braintree has already successfully trialed its Axon technology with one of Australia's major banks in a busy retail environment and has sold over 4000 units of its leased line GPRS variant, the Axon 4020.

Braintree was also recently selected in the Q400, which recognises the top 400 privately owned companies in Queensland .
